The Empennage

Tail arrives.JPG (67709 bytes) 11 June 02 Empennage finally arrives. That and several other boxes. A large order from Avery and Cleveland got here at the same time as the much-needed additional tool box from Sears. Good thing or the Craftsman tool catalog. Carolina had to pull all of them into the garage. That dolly was sure a good purchase.
Inventory.jpg (78705 bytes) 16 June 2002 I finally returned from a business trip and was able to get into the boxes. Inventory was complete in just a couple hours. All parts accounted for with the exception of the fiberglass tips. We also received the new RV-9 rudder and updated drawings. Luckly, there was no damage courtesy of the fine folks at UPS. No footprints, no dinged corners. Everything OK.

There's still some work to do with the shop and includes building an additional workbench. Plans have been hung against the wall and there's stuff stored in every corner.
Shelves1.jpg (63914 bytes) 16 June 2002 We're starting the building of the RV in one side of a two car garage. There's actually quite a lot of room as it is deeper than most garages. I've installed a number of white wire shelves in various nooks in the garage. This one happens to be 20" wide and nicely holds the empennage skins. Another set holds the internal components.

4 Dec 2002 Finally finished the empennage! This only took 168 hours of work but that also includes a little over 26 hours of fiberglass work on the tips. I figured I'd get that done while the wings are on order.
