The
Shop Aircraft Factory
This is basically the shop as it
stands now. It's probably as clean as it's going to get for the next couple
years. This whole shop thing started last summer when I took a sledge hammer to
existing shelving that was installed into the garage eons ago. What ensued was a
three month off-and-on renovation of the garage er, workshop.
Carolina thinks that we ought to put cars in here, but it just looks too
nice.....After painting the floors white, the neighbors thought I was opening some sort
of illicit medical practice. Little did they know....

The photo above is a composite of several digital photos stitched together. I love technology. As you can see, the shop is outfitted with a 5hp, 26 Gal Husky compressor (Home Depot marketed version of the Campbell Hausfeld compressor). The work benches are basically the EAA Chapter 1000 standard tables that have been modified by adding some length and shelving. The table with the ply top has casters since it's sitting where the car normally sits. There's basically enough room to push the table back behind the two white posts (which hold up a loft for storage of house stuff). There is a removable center cover on the table that accommodates the 25" long C-frame dimpler. Every effort has been made to get the most storage space out of the limited area. In the upper left can be seen the white wire shelving. These work great for the storage of lots of flat RV parts.
Also, to the right, behind the two posts, can be seen the roll-around tool station. It currently has a drill press, bench grinder, disk/belt sander, and a large vise. The only item lacking is the small band saw and that's in work. The roll around station has been around a while and served me well for the last project.
As far as tools go, I had quite a
number of the required tools, but I did place a large order to Avery Tools.
These folks have great service and are highly recommended. I used the RV tool
kit as a basis, then deleted the tools I already had.
